Pearls have been highly valued as gemstones since antiquity, and their allure and beauty has always been magnified by the difficulty of obtaining them in early times. Pearls are known as symbols of purity, perfection and elegance. These beauties are hard objects produced within the soft tissues of certain shelled mollusks, most often, oysters. Most pearls are ‘cultured’ meaning they were cultivated by man from pearl oysters rather than being formed naturally in the sea.

Unlike most other gemstones which are minerals, Pearls are organic and are formed by living organisms. They are generally formed within the soft tissue layer of mollusks such as oysters and mussels. Pearls are composed of calcium carbonate and organic conchiolin that build up as concentric layers as they are secreted by their host. Natural pearls formed in oysters in the sea are of greater value than their cultured counterparts since it takes searching through hundreds of oysters to find just one pearl. Gem laboratories with specialized x-ray equipment can look at the center of a pearl to ascertain whether it is a natural or a cultured pearl.

Final Finish Jewelry has a selection of rare and exotic gemstones including new additions of landscape jasper, fire agate, Mexican fire opal, African jade, apatite, green garnet, hessonite garnet, lepidocrocite, Moroccan agate, rubellite, Russian jade, natural rubies, and zebra jasper. The actual value of natural pearls is determined by similar factors as those used to evaluate other gems. These are size, shape, overall quality of the surface and luster. Color grades can also be used to classify pearls since they can be found in a variety of colors including pink, blue, champagne, green, black and purple.

We are also increasing our selection of natural pearls including natural Tahitian pearls and freshwater pearls such as keshi pearls, baroque pearls, nucleus pearls, stick pearls, round pearls and more. We have an extensive selection of both natural pearls and colored.
